Telegram CEO Pavel Durov revealed on May 28 that Elon Musk's artificial intelligence venture xAI will integrate its Grok chatbot across the messaging platform's ecosystem. The one-year partnership aims to expose Grok's capabilities to Telegram's 【1 billion】 active users through deep platform integration.
The agreement includes a $300 million compensation package combining cash and equity from xAI to Telegram. Notably, the messaging app will retain ——50% of revenue—— from xAI subscriptions sold through its platform. "By summer, we'll deliver market-leading AI tools," Durov stated in his official Telegram channel.
Promotional materials showcase Grok's planned features accessible via Telegram's search interface: • Threaded conversational AI • Smart text enhancement tools • Automated chat summarization • Advanced group moderation systems Industry observers suggest this move may prompt Musk to establish his own verified Telegram channel.
Toncoin (TON) surged 【20%】 within hours following the announcement, reaching $3.60 per token. The rally coincides with other Telegram-related developments including BlackRock's potential involvement in the platform's $1.5 billion bond offering and strategic hires from traditional finance.
Since January, Telegram has exclusively used Toncoin for in-app payments, strengthening ties with the TON Foundation. The blockchain organization recently recruited former Visa crypto executive Nikola Plecas as payments VP, signaling deeper financial service integration.
Neither xAI nor Grok had independently verified the collaboration at publication time. The deal emerges amidst controversy, with the Human Rights Foundation reporting Durov faced travel restrictions preventing his attendance at the Oslo Freedom Forum.
This partnership marks xAI's first major messaging platform integration since Grok's 2023 launch. It positions Telegram against competitors increasingly incorporating AI features, while providing Musk's startup with unprecedented user reach. Market analysts anticipate similar deals may follow as AI capabilities become critical differentiators in social platforms.
